Recently I mentioned that we changed our name from Arizona
Ram Jack to Arizona Foundation Solutions. Part of what I talked about was the
fact that we wanted a name that reflects the diversity of the solutions that we
bring to the table.
As I have mentioned in the past at least 75% of the jobs
that we look at end up have expansive soils that result floor slab heave. In
the past, the solutions for this are expensive and of limited value. Cut off
walls and interior floor slab replacement. Both of these solutions can cost
$75,000 or more.
Other solutions involve improving the drainage on the
perimeter, fixing plumbing leaks, and installing rain gutters. These solutions
have a limited effect and don’t really go to the heart of the problem.
The heart of the problem being that excess moisture
accumulating under the slab and causing those expansive clays to swell.
We have been actively developing viable solutions to this
vexing problem. One of those is the ventilation and moisture control of the
soil underneath an existing slab (as pictured below). We have been working with local Geotechnical
engineers and the Geotechnical Department of ASU and have developed a
technology that directly controls the moisture levels under a slab. Stay tuned
for more details.
